Apple iPhoneFor all the furore surround Apple's iPhone about whether it has been a success or a flop the figures speak for themselves. Apple has now positioned itself 3rd in the world ranking of smartphone sales during Q4 of 2007.

Apple shipped 2,320,840 iPhone's putting itself 3rd beating Motorola who shipped 2,301,260. It highlights the recent struggles that Motorola is now having.

Apple did not just beat Motorola but also Palm and all other Windows Mobile device suppliers in the market.

In first though came Nokia with 18,802,480 devices shipped followed by RIM who shipped 4,046,860 of their popular Blackberry device.

This shows clearly Apple still has a long way to go if it is to catch the leading pack now who combined have over 64% of the market.

Apple's strength in sales have been in the US where it has struggled in Europe.

The journey for Apple has clearly started but it has a long way to go with still many opting for devices which pack more punch in terms of hardware but it will be interesting in the months to come should Apple introduce features such as 3G.
