LG Venus KF600

LG Venus KF600Having been given the 2008 Product Design Award for Excellence by the International Forum we take a closer look at the KF600 from LG.

Some may have thought LG would rest on their laurels after the success of their recent Viewty and Chocolate handsets, however they have gone on to create the KF600, which for us just highlights LG’s growing strength and reputation in this market.

LG have continued with their successful touch sensitive keypad navigation but in addition have introduced InteractPad technology, essentially this is a seamless dual display where the lower half of the phone is touch sensitive and works alongside the screen above.

This enhances the phones navigation and usability across all functions, the dual display replaces buttons with virtual navigation keys tailored to the feature you are using, you can also customise the look of the handset with a choice of interface graphics and colours.

The KF600 is sure to turn heads, with its high gloss finish and compact design, other features include a 3 Megapixel Camera, MP3 Player/Radio, Video and microSD storage.

2008 looks set to be the year of the touchscreen and LG have certainly placed themselves in contention with the Venus KF600.

The LG Venus KF600 deals are now live, we also have LG Venus KF600 pay as you go offers.

Sony Ericsson W890i

Sony Ericsson W890iIf you are a music lover the W890i from Sony Ericsson may hit the right note for you.

Firstly the W890i comes equipped with a huge 2GB of capacity to store your music, is powered by the latest Walkman player software, built in stereo speakers and HSDPA connectivity for fast downloads.

Encased in brushed aluminium the phone feels quality and looks great, is super light at 78g, and has a colour TFT screen and user friendly keypad.

Other features include a 3.2 Megapixel Camera, Walkman/Radio, Video Record/Playback.

Sony Ericsson do seem to have addressed the criticism they received of their W880i model by incorporating an FM Radio and changing the keypad. In summary the W890i is by far the best music capable phone on the market, if you love and want mobile music you will love the W890i.

One feature we have to highlight for debate though is SensMe, this is a facility on the W890i that enables the phone to create a playlist according to your mood and temperature, we haven’t seen such a feature in other phones to date so thumbs up for the innovation but if it actually works we do wonder if you are feeling sad the last thing you want to hear is a selection of sad music that would only compound the feeling?

Is this a prime example of over design? What new innovations or features would you like to see manufacturers introduce? Let us know in comments.

The Sony Ericsson W890i deals are now live, we also have Sony Ericsson W890i pay as you go offers.

Sony Xperia X1

Sony Xperia X1Hitting the UK mid/end 2008, the Xperia X1 looks to be Sony’s answer to Nokia’s announcement of the N96 which is also due out around the same time.

The Xperia is Sony’s first multimedia touchscreen device, the first Sony device to run on Windows Mobile and it creates the first sub brand from Sony Ericsson with their popular Cyber-shot and Walkman devices originating from Sony.

Firstly the design is distinctive, an Arc slider design, this gives the phone a unique feel, simply slide the screen upwards to reveal the wide-pitch QWERTY keyboard. In addition a 3inch Wide touchscreen VGA display, black metal body, it looks very sophisticated and stylish.

The Xperia lets you navigate the phone via 3 different methods with a full QWERTY Keyboard, Touchscreen and optical joystick catering for everyone.

Sony are pitching the Xperia at top end consumers who want the best of everything and it certainly seems to tick all the boxes, further more Sony Ericsson’s marketing spend is estimated to increase 25% this year so expect to see a large scale marketing campaign in 2008 for the Xperia X1.

Nokia N96

Nokia N96Hot off the press in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress comes the announcement of Nokia’s much anticipated N96, the next step after the incredibly popular N95. Nokia’s N96 certainly pulls no punches and this time it really looks the business.

The design is in keeping with many of the designs recently released by Nokia - with a smooth flat black gloss finish with subtle touches of silver.

It packs a big display screen as well coming in at 2.8″ which is just as well considering Nokia are pushing it as the multimedia phone, ‘personal window to entertainment’ which targets video and TV so heavily. Covering popular media formats such as MPEG4, Windows Media Video and Flash Video will make it video easily accessible to many users.

The Nokia N96 also features a DVB-H receiver which in some regions will be able to receive live TV with an up to date TV guide. With its massive 16 GB (gigabytes) of memory and an expandable memory slot you will be able to store up to 40 hours of video content as well as the usual music and photo files which you can take with its 5 mega-pixel camera. The memory slot allows for a total capacity of 24 GB.

One nice new feature is the N96’s kick stand which allows you to effectively stand the device up for hands-free viewing.

The Nokia N96 would not be complete without great sound features. It comes complete with 3D surround sound so you can truly be immersed in the action on screen.

Like the N95 the new N96 features sat nav with A-GPS using rich maps for a complete experience.

The Nokia N96 is due in Q3 of 2008 and it is sure to be a red hot handset with already anticipation levels high.

Don’t forget to keep checking as we’ll have the Nokia N96 deals as soon as they are available. Let us know what you think with the Nokia N96 reviews.
