Google Maps for Android has received an update, with version 4.1 now available in the Android Market for all handsets running Android OS 1.6 and higher. The update brings some nice improvements to the Google Maps experience, with a revamped search page that has done away with the tabs along the top, which are now replaced by new shortcut buttons. The new look allows more info to be displayed on the results screen, with more room for details and reviews. You can also move between search results by swiping across the screen.
The update also brings a latitude widget, which you can install on the main display in the usual manner for widgets on Android devices, which will allow you to check on nearby traffic conditions and the location of nearest friends without having to launch the Google Maps application. And, for the latest devices running on Android 2.1 with live wallpaper support, you can turn your display into a constantly updating map utilising the live wallpaper support.
If you already have Google Maps on your device, you may well have received an application update notification, otherwise just search the Android Market for Google Maps.
