It has only been a couple of weeks since launch, but already the iPhone is having a major impact on the usage stats of Opera Mini. Currently the iPhone sits as the third most popular device using Opera Mini worldwide. All the other handsets in the top 20 are either Nokia or Sony Ericsson devices.
In the US, the previous leading manufacturer was BlackBerry, but now the iPhone holds top spot, well ahead of BlackBerry, and the iPhone is also leading the way for users in the UK. Outside the top 10 countries according to Opera Mini usage, the iPhone has become the leading handset for Opera Mini usage in Australia, Korea, Canada, Germany and Japan. But early indications are the top 10 countries are set to change when full month figures are released by Opera for next month. The top 10 countries for Opera Mini usage are Russia, Indonesia, India, China, Ukraine, South Africa, Nigeria, the US, Vietnam and the UK.
Overall, Opera Mini usage across all brands continues to increase at an amazing rate, as data usage on mobile phones becomes increasingly popular, Within the EU, page views increased by a phenomenal 82% over the 12 months from March 2009 to March 2010, with unique users increasing in number by 60% and data transfer increasing by 71%. Google continues to be the most popular site for browsing on a device in 9 out of 10 of the top EU countries, being second only in the Czech Republic.
But it is the increase in iPhone usage that has delivered the most outstanding results, and it will be interesting to see just what stats the iPhone delivers over a full month’s usage.
