LG are looking to bring in a new range of handsets to market over the coming months, marketed under the Optimus brand, featuring up to 10 new smartphones, operating across a variety of operating systems.
Details are still scarce, but two of the smartphones will be running on the latest version of the Android OS, 2.2, commonly known as FroYo. The Optimus One will be a 'with Google' Android device, which will most likely be a native Android device, (i.e. without a customised User Interface) receiving software updates directly OTA from Google.
The second suggested device is the Optimus Chic, is a fashion focussed device, which LG state will be aimed at a wider audience, breaking the perception that Android devices only appeal to a hardcore tech audience.
LG also hinted at the release of a tablet device, also running on Android, but exact details and specs were scarce in LG's announcement.
President of LG, Dr Skott Ahn said “The LG Optimus Series is aimed at challenging the notion that one device can meet the needs of many. At LG, we believe in providing people with many different choices because customers are not all alike. We want to provide devices that suit all needs, and simplify people's lives.”
We will be looking with interest for the release of further details of the new LG range, and will be bringing full handset reviews of the new releases in the coming weeks.
