The LG KM555e is a mid range handset, and seems to be aimed at the budget conscious user. The LG KM555e delivers with a large, 3.0 inch TFT touchscreen, with a pixel resolution of 240 x 400, supporting up to 356,000 colours. It is interesting to note the increase in touchscreen devices during 2009, and as more and more devices come to market with touchscreens, the cost of the technology will get even lower. Early touchscreen devices suffered with the quality of the displays doing little to credit the manufacturers, but in recent months touchscreen technology has improved immensely, with touch devices now available from all the leading manufacturers of mobile devices.

It would seem the KM555e is set to operate in the same market as the top selling LG Cookie, and I expect that LG would be delighted if the KM555e ends up being as popular as the Cookie. It is a big ask, the Cookie has literally sold in millions, making it one of the most successful handsets ever from LG. The styling of the KM555e is not dis-similar to the Cookie, with virtually the same dimensions and only 1g heavier, at 90g.

The KM555e uses the same 3.2 megapixel camera, but there is an enhancement on the video recording front, with the KM555e able to record video clips at QVGA resolution, at 30fps. Uploading video clips to the web is handled well if you happen to be in range of a wireless network, as the KM555e is also enabled with WiFi. This is of immense benefit to the data connectivity of the device, as disappointingly there is no 3G data option available. However, for general web browsing the KM555e does offer class 10 GPRS and EDGE, which will deliver adequate results for more standard usage.

It is rare these days to find even budget mid range devices without expandable memory, and the KM555e delivers here, handling MicroSD memory cards up to 16GB in size. This is very welcome, as the handset itself only offers 40MB of internal memory. The memory capacity can be put to good use on the phone; not only for video and image storage, but also music, as the KM555e comes with a capable media player on board, supporting a wide choice of digital audio and video file formats.

The LG KM555e has a proprietary connector for headphones, but thanks to the inclusion of Bluetooth 2.1, you can also listen to music in stereo with a suitable wireless headset. Bluetooth 2.1 also makes it easier to connect to other compatible Bluetooth devices, as it improves the connection process to enable fast and simple connectivity for file sharing and general data transfer. For those moments when you want to be able to catch up with live music or news from your local radio station, the KM555e also brings a stereo FM radio, with RDS support, which allows certain pieces of information to be broadcast along the FM transmission, such as channel name, time updates and basic programme information.

Messaging elements on the handset are well covered; as well as the expected SMS and MMS picture messaging, the KM555e also has a built in email client with multi account support, which also offers the option to poll automatically for email and have it delivered directly to the phone.

So, all in, the LG KM555e is a decent handset, that should sell well on both prepay and contract deals. The handset will be available in Black, Silver or Violet, and although there are no confirmed delivery dates yet for this phone, it should be available sometime in November or early December.

I just had my km555e for 4 days now and so far, i like the features.. well i'm not very much satisfied with the camera since it doesn't have flash and i haven't tried to take a pic from outdoors while there is sun since it's its raining a lot these days, but i believe its ok. coz the picture i have while i was at the mall was perfect and besides i have a digi-cam also so im not bothered so much with the camera. regarding the battery life, well i used this phone for a whole day of using the wifi and it drained after 24 hours .. so its not that bad..

those who want to have a cheap wifi and touch phone, better have this lg km555e.. its cool!

Got my phone about a week ago. Fairly nice, downside is it's a little bit, tiny bit hard to scroll down, up and sideways for a touchscreen phone. But overall, being a mid budgeted price phone, I like it. Mine came with a free synthetic leather case with a side slot for the stylus, pretty slick.
