HTC

It could be argued that the HTC Sense user interface is one of the driving forces behind the popularity of Android devices. Whilst Android undoubtedly offers much to impress to a wide audience, with HTC Sense, HTC showed how a decent user interface can be utilised to further enhance the end user experience on a mobile device.

When HTC announced two new handsets recently, the HTC Desire Z and HTC Desire HD, they also announced a new, improved and updated HTC Sense experience. One of the more interesting features in the new HTC Sense is the inclusion of DLNA support, which will make it simple to stream content across your home WLAN to the device. The way HTC have implemented DLNA support also makes it easier to exchange content between any devices that are DLNA compatible.

The new version of Sense also allows a quicker boot time on handsets, as it loads quicker, and there will also be better support for mapping features as maps will be cached, allowing access even when not in network coverage. Popular Sense features such as Footprint, Favourites and Scenes have also been tweaked, and there is a new look to the onboard photo album application.

Another noticeable update is the imminent availability of the HTCSense.com website, which will allow users to update and backup various content from their phones to a central online database, which can be used to restore content on upgraded and replaced handsets, as well as there being a remote wipe feature which will protect precious and private content be remotely removing information should the handset be lost or stolen.

Whilst the new HTC Sense is available on the new Desire Z and Desire HD, there is no news on whether it will be made retrospectively available on previous HTC sense handsets such as the HTC Hero or original HTC Desire. But we can hope.
