Nokia 2700 Classic

Nokia 2700 ClassicThe Nokia 2700 Classic is a lightweight compact handset, that is destined to make a big mark on the prepay market.

Measuring in at 109.2mm x 46mm x 14mm the 2700 Classic is only 85g in weight, making it one of the lighter handsets you can buy. There is nothing that screams out to you with this phone, what you find instead is a device that is quite happy to let others take the limelight whilst it quietly gets on with the job.

The screen on the device is a welcome 2.0 inch QVGA, supporting up to 256,000 colours. Navigation on the device is via the 5 way Navi key. As with recent handsets, from the standby screen shortcuts can be allocated to each direction on the Navi key, such as accessing the calendar feature on the phone, composing a new text message, accessing the contacts list, and so on.

There is no high speed data on this phone, but then that isn’t really its target market. With the 2700 Classic, Nokia are reaching out to the mobile user who generally just wants a handset they can use to make calls, send text, and little more with the minimum amount of fuss. And that, the 2700 Classic can do, and with some style. The unassuming handset design sits the handset right into the mid range prepay market segment, and for most users calls and texts will be all they need, yet for the more adventurous who want to learn just that little bit more on a mobile device, the 2700 Classic is equipped with a few decent features.

Chief among these is the inclusion of a 3.5mm audio connector on the handset. Not even the more musically minded Walkman range yet include this feature, and it is a real positive sign from Nokia that they seek to include such features on lower tier handsets. By including a 3.mm connector, anyone who wants to use the handset for music is going to be able to plug in their own set of favourite headphones for comfortable listening. Not only that, Nokia have seen fit to include support for Bluetooth 2.0 so you can choose if you wish to listen to your favourite tunes with a wireless stereo Bluetooth headset. There is 64MB of internal memory on the handset and the possibility to increase this with a Micro SD memory card, with the 2700 Classic supporting up to 2GB, more than enough for a few hundred music tracks. And for those moments when you want to keep up to date with all the latest releases, you can do so by tuning in to your favourite FM Radio station directly from the phone.

The camera on the phone is a 2.0 megapixel offering, fixed focus with no flash. Great for those fun moments when all you want to do is point n shoot and not worry about the right settings, lighting conditions and so on. You wouldn’t want to print these pictures out, but they are ideal for sending to friends via MMS and email, via the email client on the handset. A video recording facility is also available, recording clips at 15 fps.

Java support on the handset means you can enhance the functions on the phone by adding popular software such as Yahoo Go, Gmail and Opera Mini, and increase the fun by downloading some games. The 2700 Classic comes with four games already pre-installed, Rally Star, Soduko, Snake III and Diamond Rush.

Reported battery life on this little handset is really good, with an estimated 288 hours of standby and up to 6 hours of talktime available.

Like we said at the beginning, it is unlikely that you will see the Nokia 2700 Classic winning any awards, but for some it is not all about accolades, it is just about having a handset that gets the job done, and that the 2700 surely can do.

The 2700 Classic is expected to be released around May this year, for full specifications check out our Nokia 2700 Classic reviews and watch this space for an update.
