If you’ve ever wondered what a project meeting is like inside one of the top manufacturers, as they sit around the table and discuss what is needed in a new phone, then this is the video for you. And, if this has never crossed your mind, you should still see this clip! I’ve always imagined that such project meetings at Nokia would be a little ‘off the wall’, but I had no idea that the next big thing starts like this….

The handset concerned is the Nokia N900, a new style of multimedia computing device from Nokia, running on the new Maemo 5 Operating System. This product has certainly caught the attention of many a phone geek, and the internet chatter around this device is growing in momentum. And with good cause, too, because with the way the smartphone market has developed over the last few years, there is a big group of users who want a small, pocket sized portable computer that also happens to make calls, rather than a phone that tries to be a multimedia computer.

You can read our write up of the Nokia N900 and you’ll see this is one powerful handset. It could well be a device that sets a standard for other products in 2010, and as the manufacturers compete for market position it leaves us consumers in an enviable position of being able to choose from some very high spec devices. As 2009 draws to a close, 2010 is lining up to be one of the most interesting in mobile communications for quite a while.
