Having already looked at the Nokia X3, it is time to turn our attentions to the other Xseries device announced at the recent Nokia World event in Stuttgart, the Nokia X6. The X3 is a low to mid range budget device set for big sales in the prepay market, however the X6 looks set to compete amongst the premium of handsets. This is a phone that packs in all the latest mobile technology, into a sleek looking modern mobile phone design.
The spec sheet on this phone reads like a who’s who and a what’s what in mobile technology, with virtually every acronym used in the industry listed beside this device. Strong in all areas, the key focus of the X6 is the music player. The phone has a super internal memory capacity of 32GB, offering space for 1,000’s of albums to be stored. The device has built in stereo speakers, as well as coming with a 3.5mm audio output jack for listening to your music with a set of headphones of your own choice. The music player supports all the major digital music formats, including MP3, WMA, EA, AAC, WAV and M4A. In common with most market leading music players, tracks on the X6 are listed by category, allowing you to navigate by genre, album, artist or composer. You can set your own playlists to allow you to select music that reflects your mood, and everything can be synchronised to your PC by using the Nokia Music Manager, which is part of the general Nokia PC Suite.
The X6 comes with a high capacity lithium ion battery, which along with giving top standby times of up to 420 hours and a talk time of up to 8 hours, allows for music playback for up to 35 hours from a single charge. The X6 will be sold as a ‘Comes With Music’ device, giving you access to thousands of music tracks from the Nokia Music store which can be downloaded to the device, free of charge.
But there is so much more to this handset than ‘just’ being a music device. Dimensions on the X6 are pretty standard, with the phone measuring in at 111 x 51 x 14 mm, and weighing in at 122g. The phone sports a bright, crisp 3.2 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display, supporting up to 16 million colours and with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels, making it ideal for watching video on the move. A proximity sensor is included, which stops the touchscreen being activated when pressed against your cheek in a call, and there is also an accelerometer for screen auto rotation. Being a capacitive touchscreen there is support included for handwriting recognition, and the display is covered by a scratch resistant glass surface.
The Nokia X6 runs on the latest version S60 v5 operating system, designed specifically for touch screen devices. This is the same OS as used by the popular Nokia 5800 and the market leading Nokia N97, so many of the features found on the X6 match those found on these other devices. This includes the camera, with the X6 bringing a 5.0 Megapixel camera, with Carl Zeiss lens, auto focus, and a dual LED light. Whilst the LED flash is not as capable as a Xenon flash, it does have one advantage and that is it can be used also as a light for the video recorder, allowing extra light when recording video in low level lighting conditions. Video recording can capture clips at a resolution of VGA at 30fps, and there is also a front facing camera for video calls. With TV OUT on the X6, any images or videos captured on the device can be transmitted to a TV screen with the correct cable, and is a great way of sharing content from the phone.
As the X6 supports video calls, we know that it has to support at least 3G, but on top of that the handset offers support for HSDPA Mobile Broadband, along with WiFi with UPnP (Universal Plug n Play) technology included, as well as including GPRS< HSCSD and EDGE. The quad band GSM X6 also includes Bluetooth, with A2DP support, making audio streaming and local connectivity a synch to set up.
Available in Blue on White or Red on Black, the Nokia X6 comes with a built in GPS receiver with aGPS support. OVI maps support is available, allowing you to use the X6 as a complimentary in-car satellite navigation device, or ideally as a handheld GPS unit. As well as OVI maps, other OVI services are also optimised for the X6, allowing you to use services such as the OVI store or OVI mail.
The Nokia X6 is a true heavyweight device, and is sure to take the market by storm when released. Expect the X6 to be available during Q4 2009.

I've recently got this phone on contract and I must admit was quite sceptical for the first week as I have swapped from the iPhone 3G. I'm amazed at how speedy this phone is and how easy it is to navigate. Also I am in love with the ability to have my most used contacts on the home screen, two clicks and I'm ringing my mum, boyfriend, sister, couldn't have made my life easier.
The 32GB is my biggest love as my old iPhone was 8GB and I struggled to fit my songs, pictures, videos etc onto the phone, now I'm struggling to use up even half of the memory available. The side sliding lock feature is a bonus as well although in my pocket or handbag it does pose a problem when it does catch and unlock although the "vibrate touch" feature solves that issue brilliantly as it warns me I've unlocked it. I really couldnt have been happier with my new phone and I havent looked back to the iPhone since! Well worth the money.

I think the best thing about this phone is comes with music. A whole years worth of downloads free. Download any album or song you want to and even brand new ones are available at no cost. And you can listen on both your PC and your phone. Can download on PC too which is easier and great fun.
The phones great. Much better than 5800. Had one of these for a while and thought it was a flawed gem. This ones actually a gem without MOST of the flaws. The cameras good, 5 megapixel carl zeiss, can even take ok pictures inside despite only LED flash. The music player sounds really good. Even sounds good when I plug the phone into my hifi system once I've tweaked with the custom equaliser. And numerous presets so can tweak sound depending on phone speaker, hifi, headphone etc... with ease.
Video recording is excellent. The screen and ease of use of the phone are good. Only downside is it needs a more powerful processor and more memory for the O/S. Run too much at once and it'll slow down to a crawl. The range of applications is also poorer than the iPhone but I really like the package overall.

The Nokia X6 is brill, there are tons of apps for it, as a whole the feel and touch is the best I have used, the size of the memory is good as you can use in usb hard drive mode. The camera is a 5 megapixel carl zeiss and the picture is the best and in video mode is just as good the sound is clear and crisp.
A whole years worth of downloads free. Download any album or song you want to and even brand new ones are available at no cost. And you can listen on both your PC and your phone. Can download on PC too which is easier. I could keep going but I dont have the time, if you want a phone that does everything when and where you want then this is the the phone you want.

I just love this phone, have never had a touch screen before and was a bit wary but the side lock/unlock button put me at ease. The speakers are fantastic for the music of which you can fit alot of onto the phone even with mine being the 16gb version. Easy to navigate around all of the applications, can find anything with a maximum of 4 clicks. All in all a fantastic looking phone and well worth the money.

The X6 is such a drag, at best an iPhone for octogenarians. It's slow, completely stifled in terms of apps, and even Nokia's own apps crash (messaging with Gmail is just one). The camera's good, but the rest is like living life on narrow-band. Avoid frustration and technologically enforced retardation, and buy the HTC Desire. it's a world apart.
