What Samsung do well is produce multiple handsets across all spectrums of the mobile industry, from cheap, low level entry devices that are ideal for granny to use in an emergency, to low cost first time devices that are ideal for emerging markets, right up to the top of the range devices, the type of handset that is usually on ever early adopters shopping list. Whilst it is the Smartphone that usually grabs the headlines, it is the bread and butter devices that capture market share, and Nokia have been using this strategy for years. Where Samsung are a threat, is that they are now producing low cost devices, that have innovative designs, and offer some real choice to the more budget conscious user. The Samsung B3210 Genio QWERTY is such a device.

Samsung Genio Qwerty

You can get a lot from the name of the handset, the suffix QWERTY clearly indicating that this handset is aimed at a younger audience, those members of the mobile community who send unimaginable amounts of text messages every month, in their thousands. Where they get the time from, who knows, but globally mobile users are sending more than 1 Billion texts, every day! The phenomenal growth in text messaging is even more surprising when you consider that for years messages were composed on handsets with traditional alphanumeric keypads. The invention of T9 was a great boon for many, in helping keep down the number of key presses required to compose a message, but there is still a good number of users who do not ‘get’ the concept of predictive text and still persevere with the traditional multi tap method. To seal the credentials of the B3210 as a serious texting device, Samsung have included a full four row QWERTY keyboard, which helps improve the speed of data entry. QWERTY keyboards are comfortable for most people, as the keypad layout is familiar, and allows those who choose to use real words or those who choose to use txt spk to type as they prefer.

There will be other devices bearing the Genio name, as Samsung look to create an identity of fun, funky devices that fit in with their overall market strategy. The Genio QWERTY sits firmly at the lower end of the spectrum, in terms of pricing, but still manages to offer an acceptable range of features. As well as focussing on text messaging, the B3210 is capable of connecting to Instant Messaging services, and also has a built in email client, with up to 5 email account supported. A built in document viewer will also allow you to view email attachments, such as Word documents, although there is no edit option. The Genio has a 2.0 Megapixel fixed-focus camera, which is capable of recording short video clips, which can easily be sent either via MMS or as an email attachment.

There is a built in media player, which is fairly basic, but manages MP3, AAC and WMA audio files, which covers the most popular formats used. To accompany this, the B3210 has a stereo FM radio, with RDS, which allows you to preset your favourite radio stations, so you can easily switch between them. The inclusion of a 3.5mm audio jack allows you to listen to music while using your own favourite headset. The Genio also has the option of Fashion Jackets, much like the Genio S3650, which allows you to change the back panel of the device to add a bit of colour. As well as those provided, different fashion jackets can be purchased online, and no doubt there will be places where you can get personalised jackets from, to offer your device that unique look.

The Genio QWERTY is not the ideal product for web browsing, with no high speed data connection included, although there is GPRS, HSCSD and EDGE, with Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP included for local connectivity. The TFT screen on the B3210 is also rather small, with a resolution of 176 x 144 and measuring in at 2.2 inches, and supporting up to 256,000 colours. Despite the inclusion of the QWERTY keyboard, the Genio QWERTY remains rather compact, weighing in at 94g and measuring 112 x 60 x 13mm.

Overall, nothing spectacular, but the Genio Qwerty is ideal for the market it is aimed at, and will no doubt be popular with younger users who are perhaps buying their first QWERTY enabled device. The Samsung B3210 Genio QWERTY is now available on pay as you go.

I had the exact same problem but after searching around found the soloution. Basically you need to buy a micro sd card (available very cheap off of ebay or amazon). Simply take the back off your phone and there should be a little diagram next to your sim telling you where to put it. Now go in your pictures file - options - move to - memory card. Select all images. Then attach usb to phone and computer, wait a few seconds and bobs your uncle! A file will pop up and after that its basic and straight forward. Hope this helped you as it did me! Abbie :)

Brilliant phone, brought this christmas eve, the only thing is some of the buttons are a bit stuck sometimes, only happened 2 times but a really good phone and good sound system, I would rate this phone 5/5 and would highly recommend it for anyone.

I want this phone because I am sick of my LG Cookie. I don't care about touch screen phones as I'm getting an iPod Touch, and that can take care of all my 'App' needs. Also, this has a conversation feature, where you can see the past texts you've seen to each other in speech bubbles, like a real conversation.

I'm hoping to get this phone in June and the reviews are looking pretty good.

To Gemma, I've been looking at lots of reviews on this phone, and you can buy USB connectors with it for extra at certain phone shops they are usaully more than £12.99 - hope it helps.

To Liv, there aren't many backs you can get with it, you can get 3 that come with the phone but you can order some very cool backs off Amazon for only £3.99 plus!

This phone takes an SD memory card that slots in the back, underneath the sim card slot, music must be on the phones memory to be a ringtone, which sucks, as the phone has a poor memory capacity. Bought it yesterday and already in love!!! The typing games pre-installed on this phone help to master the tiny keyboard! Hope you all love the phone as much as me!

Hi, the battery lasts a good 3-4 days without worrying that it's starting to get low. But it always depends how much time you talk/ browse/ film...

It does have bluetooth - v good.

And, you can get different covers from play.com, amazon, ebay... Instead of getting a different cover, I got a yellow case on playtrade via play.com. It's brilliant - fits phone perfectly, definitely recommend.

    Hello all,

Have had this phone a couple of weeks now. Google it for a nice deal. Best one i found was with Orange. Top up a tenner a month and get internet and 300 texts. That's just the reward! You get to keep your tenner as credit and the net/texts are a reward for topping up a tenner! Top notch.

Anyway, google the top ten deals and you'll find one to suit yourself. The phone looks good and mine came with yellow, orange and black back covers. Phone looks really flash and for the price i can't really complain to be honest. Camera is 2mp, internet is decent but kind of slow. Doesn't bother me that much, as i can check my emails on the move, browse some well know sites. If your expecting a PC experience then dream on.

Phone converstions are clear, texting is fairly simple. Me personally, i'm not a fan of qwerty phones even though they look the business. I'll stick with predictive for my next phone. One problem i've had with this phone is that i can't transfer pics to my PC. From what i've read on here you need to purchase a usb cable and also a memory card. Insert the card and cable, go the your pictures, select options and then transfer to memory card. Should then be able to transfer to your PC although i'm yet to buy the memory card. Bit of a pain really. Should just connect and that's that.

Anyway, it's still the best phone i've owned in terms of modern features and i would buy it again. It's basically a budget blackberry. If i could of afforded the nokia c3 i think in hindsight i would of given that one a go instead.

There are links on this phone to facebook, twitter, bebo and myspace; direct from the menu. Not really for me but the rest of the internet appeals. Radio is excellent, camera is decent but one of my friends could not recieve pics from me, nor was i able to send pics to my email for some reason.

Overall, a limited but beautiful phone well worth the 'small' amount of money being asked for it. If you need super fast internet then forget it.

To transfer pics to your PC, you don't need a memory card, and you can get a USB bluetooth dongle instead of a cable. I picked up a dongle from ebay for 85p, and downloaded and installed Samsung New PC Studio (free from Samsung website). I have to unplug and replug the dongle every now and then, but I can transfer pics now.
