The Sony Ericsson Satio has been very popular since launch, however we have received a number of support requests, questions and a number of negative user Satio Reviews. The complaints range from sudden freezing, battery pulls, ringtone faults and software crashing. We await official word from Sony Ericsson and will post an update here asap, have you purchased a Satio handset and experienced similar problems? let us know via the comments link below, or read our Satio reviews and post your own.
At this time there is no suggestion this is a widespread fault and the likely resolution will be an imminent software update or fix, however on a broader note and a point of discussion, are manufacturers, up against marketing and seasonal deadlines, too quick to release handsets? Handsets are now easily updated and problems resolved after purchase with updates, however should the consumer be the guinea pig for manufacturers?

Yes I totally agree. All too often I think mobile phone handsets are rushed to market without the glitches being resolved. They just think we’ll fix it later… Shocking! Then again now we know how many problems the likes of Windows software has upon release to market and now basically mobile phones are computers with their own operating systems, so this is only natural to be happening. I think many of us still see them as mobile phones though rather than smart handheld computers.

I’ve had a problem with my Satio as soon as I turned it on. Despite having all my contacts saved in my phones memory, whenever I receive a text message the phone only displays the number and not the persons name. When making and receiving calls the name appears.
I spoke to T-Mobile and they suggested I change every contact number in my phone to include a country code, I told them this wasn’t practical, they have advised me that a software update is on the way. If it doesn’t come soon, the phones going back

After two replacements my Satio’s all revealed the same faults (Vodafone variant). Ringer and input sound randomly turning off (regularly), low level recorded sound on videos, wifi lockups and cutoffs. Sony Ericsson say that they will have an urgent software update in week 48. Until then, fingers crossed and lots of reboots (at least 10 a day) all that technology and the phone can’t even be relied upon to ring. Many owners are experiencing these problems – especially with Vodafone software on board (see Product Reviews site). Vodafone have hacked off many advertised programmes like PlayNow and Wisepilot without making a single alternative application available to date – appalling really! What’s worse, they won’t openly acknowledge the problem although one report on the PR site reveals up to 70% are being returned.

I still cannot believe Sony Ericsson would release a phone in this state. Its clear they must have known that these issues existed before releasing it to the public. Totally disgusting and probably why Sony Ericsson are struggling at the moment.

Just received my new Satio yesterday, as yet no probs, but after reading these comments I’m a bit worried. I haven’t downloaded anything from the SE Sation website yet and have just been using the phone as it came until I can get it to my PC to get software. Is it when you download the software that these problems occur?
November 12th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Completely agree with what has been said, I have had many miss calls and blamed it on myself for not hearing it. However now I have read this I understand why, the phone is starting to crash as well usually after calls. I will be contacting orange ASAP for a different model I think.

Hey I’m really disappointed!!
I was so excited about getting my Satio on contract yesterday but almost as soon as I got it there was problems! It kept freezing and the only way was to take the battery out and this happens alot! It’s an awesoms phone but this will drive me crazy eventually! One other thing I was dissappinted about was the quality of the sound:-( I think I may send it back! Sort it out Sony!!
November 12th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
I a on my 3rd Satio within 10 days on the Orange network. When I was taking a picture, on some of the pics there was circles on the pic like someone has just blown bubbles in front of the lens. Also the second phone the volume kept going on mute when playing music and on calls only for a couple of seconds then back to normal this happend very often every other minute. The 3rd phone has just arrived so fingers crossed!
November 12th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
I got my Satio from CPW on PAYG it cost me £360 on Orange and it’s been a nightmare from day 1. It locks itself and the only way to get it back is to take the battery out and put it back. Also the themes dont work unless its the Sony Ericsson one, all the others are void because you cant use the home screen! (Lack of touch screen buttons) Could have been a superb phone but to many glitches for me its going back tomorrow and I’m getting a LG Viewty smart Mk2. Bad show Sony
November 13th, 2009 at 2:48 am
I got my Satio October 23. It’s an amazing camera but it had all the problems you said. I tried to update the firmware and it stopped crashing so much! Now I’m on the 1218-9500_R1BB041, I received it on the BB037. Sometimes (happened 2 times only) the screen stopped working (I saw it was not frizzed because when opening the lens, the shooter led turned on) and sometimes I still have to pull off the battery, but usually I do have problems only after 2 or 3 days… the only problem that really makes me mad it’s the wifi that only works when Bluetooth it’s turned on (here is a good tip),when BT’s off I can only see wap pages… no youtube, no email, nothing. Wifi still drops a lot…. Mine is unbranded and I’m using it Brazil.
November 13th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
I got the Satio (aka Idou) a week ago. Everything started ok but when watching movies, the phone reboots after couple of mins. However, I did press forward and backward button on the screen and possibly think that what caused the phone to be rebooted. Also when the phone reboots, it diverts all my calls to voicemail as an icon appears on the screen. Wi-Fi aint good as it drops connection. Although haven’t utilise the phone that much to comment further but looks like alot of problems coming on my way! All the best folks. I’m on the 2nd one now. Lets see what happens next! Good luck.
November 13th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Had my Satio for just over 24 hours and have had enough… awesome phone, all the features are great, providing you can put up with it freezing/crashing all the time. Frozen over 10 times in just over 24 hours… Not good!
November 13th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Hi all,
No official word on these issues as yet, on research of some support forums, it has been suggested there will be a software update very soon for the Satio that should resolve many of the issues raised.
Appreciate its very frustrating, it may be worth keeping an eye on the page below and whilst you are there review the versions of software available.

Once we hear anymore we will post an update here.

I have just got my phone on contract and what a waste. The battery doesnt even last 48 hours, it freezes and I have to pull battery out, it tells me there is not files found in settings, then file’s pop up, it takes approx 20 seconds to get the phone to work after taking the key lock off (very bad if emergency), alerts dont always work when I have a text message (ended up with 7 missed messages). I have only had phone for 4 days and I hate it.
November 14th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
I have all these problems with my Satio too, freezing and crashing, when sending and receiving texts and calls and not responding when it has been connected to my PC via the usb cable and with standard charger.
November 14th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
So upset, desperately wanted a touchscreen phone, loved the look and sound of the Satio, and after having a Sony before with no problems, I went for it, what a mistake, in less than 24hrs it was staring to freeze, the screen goes blank, the only way to get over it is to take the battery out! After reading all these reviews theres no way I’m gonna keep changing it, so I’m going to send it back and try the C995, my 2nd choice phone, hopefully that will be better, so very disappointed.
November 15th, 2009 at 5:12 am
Yes, I’m having the same issues with my phone , the biggest problem is the freeze, happens so frequently, I have to either take the battery out , or HOLD the POWER button for at least 20 seconds in order to turn it off, it happens at least 7-8 times a day on my regular use. The second worst is the sound, forget about the Music player, because there’s no sound at all , no clicking sound even if you had it set to max , not to mention about ringtone, no incoming call sound , just vibrates, and you can’t even answer the calls , nor hang up . Only option is hold power button for 20 seconds or battery pull , but I would recommend HOLD THE POWER BUTTON option , less harmful to the phone than to take the battery out.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:51 am
My screen on my Satio cracked internally, after only having the phone for 8 days, since then my touch sensitivity on the screen is slow and responsive, it freezes contstantly. Took it back to shop and they said its customer mis-use.
November 17th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
I love my Sony Ericsson Satio, my only problem being when I get a text it shows the number of who sent it and not the name, T-Mobile have told me there will be a software update soon.
November 17th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
When I’m using the internet on my Satio it wont let me log into any secure websites, the page just keeps trying to refresh and it never loads up. Starting to get on my nerves now not being able to get into my hotmail, think I might go back to my 5800.
November 18th, 2009 at 11:29 am
I have spoken to T-mobile and they say there will be an urgent software update in the next 2 weeks, with reference to Emma’s post above, you need to go into your contacts list and change the numbers so they start with +44 (then drop the 0) eg. 07123456789 needs to read +447123456789.

Same old same old, everybody having issues take it back to shop nobody else has had the same problems, Sir it is only your handset, so I handed over the printouts from a number of forums all logging same faults. His face dropped and instantly asked me to put them away and he would exchange the handset.
November 18th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
But same problems on second handset now, hoping the software update due week 48 will cure many of the faults as the phone is unusable.
November 18th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
Ok my Satio has been amazing so far, but the only problem I have is when I receive a text I can only see the number, I can’t see who the text is from, is there anyway I can see the name?
November 18th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
Can anyone please tell me why my Satio insists on giving me an error message telling me to “Please check the destination telephone no and try again. Note all national UK mobile numbers now start with 07. I have checked my contacts and all numbers start with 07. It is really irritating and would love to stop it. Any clues?
November 19th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Having used Sony Ericsson for years, I was very excited about getting a Satio. It arrived on Saturday; I sent it back to T-Mobile on Monday. The phone had crashed constantly and sent software error messages; had a cavalier approach to ringing and sending texts and the drawer that holds the SIM card fell off. (Oh, importing contacts was a real pain, too.) Nice camera, though.
November 19th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
Hi everyone, quick update. We have heard in the past hour or so that Carphone Warehouse and another leading online retailer will be removing the Sony Ericsson Satio from their websites.
This seems to be due to technical issues as some of you have been experiencing, with the handset unlikely to re-appear until mid-December, we hope with a software update.
Watch this space for further details.
November 20th, 2009 at 5:26 am
Thanks for the information.
November 20th, 2009 at 8:57 am
Well Well – I am not alone – I have massive probs with the Satio – loved the phone for first 4 hours then freeze, followed by locking on menu pages, dialling a call apparently ok then says its ringing but no ring out when I looked at the clock it was 32 mins behind me so it had worked out for itself that it had died but didn’t tell me. Got an exchange from CPW but same old. Now I have the problem that the contract states exchange in 28 days is for same model phone – what happened to “sale of goods act” here ? CPW of course uncontactable other than at shop. Working on that!! PS Now one of my wifes customers has same problem standing right next to me.
November 20th, 2009 at 9:14 am
I have had mine a week and the actual phone has been great however I went to use the camera yesterday and every time I take a picture the phone freezes – it stays on a black screen – I left it to see if it would right itself but didn’t.Ii then had to turn it off and start again. The video works but the camera is useless – I’m taking it back to the shop tonight to try and get it sorted.
November 20th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Yes, I have this problem too!
November 20th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
2nd Satio, now going back, Carphone Warehouse inform me today of a recall for ALL Satio phones. Offering me a different phone, none of which I want. Stuck in 2 year contract with Orange, should have got an iPhone.
November 20th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
I am very disappointed and frustrated with my new Satio. I have had problems with my Satio. Sometimes the ring doesn’t work, no incoming call sound and if you try to receive the call you will hear nothing, but the line is on. It happens at least twice a day and will need to be turned off the phone and restarted.
November 21st, 2009 at 7:49 am
I am now on my third Satio on T-mobile bought from Carphone. All three phones have similar probs – screen freezing 5 to 6 times per day. Ringtone not sounding on calls, vibrator not vibrating, alarm not sounding. On the third occasion to Carphone they gave me a High Complaints Customer Number to call. I did this and they told me they are no longer selling the Satio and are calling the phones back in. In place to those who have bought one they are offering a choice of ten different handset to those customers. These include N97 mini, N86, LG BL40 and so on. The number is 08700870168
November 21st, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Thank God, so far I’ve had no problems and think this phone is amazing I love it, its on Vodafone, the only one minor minor problem is that at times I cant get into secure webpages as Matt mentioned above and also there is no EQ on music player which is dissapointing as SE are normally very good at this.
November 21st, 2009 at 4:13 pm
I’m on my second Satio in 2 weeks. The first one kept crashing and the camera wouldn’t work properly. The flash kept flashing, but it wouldn’t take a photo. I chose this phone purely on the camera features. My replacement Satio seems to have a mind of its own and suddenly goes black and cuts out. Some people get 5 copies of my texts, some none! It’s driving me crazy and is going back to Orange as soon as I’ve decided which phone to replace it with. Very disappointing results from a phone that promises a lot but delivers very little.
November 21st, 2009 at 5:38 pm
Hi there, I have a Satio, on my second one from Vodafone, no apps on it, keep telling me coming in two weeks then three weeks. I’ve had it now, false adverting says loaded with apps and there isnt any, so not happy.
November 21st, 2009 at 11:43 pm
Had this phone for over a week, never crashed on me once, used everything on it (Google maps, camera, wifi, installed snaptu and used all the services on it like facebook, twitter etc). Only slight glitch I’ve had was when I misspelt a word and it froze for about 5 secs then ran as normal. I have it on Vodafone but run the standby theme as basic not vodafone. The battery life is pretty poor about 48 hours as someone mentioned on here, but last year I had the c905 which Vodafone ruined with its poor software until it finally released a good version 3 updates later.
In comparison this phone is 100% better than the c905 on Vodafone when first released, I was disappointed when I realised the Vodafone apps store and sat nav werent available yet but I just get apps for free where I can, plus I have a Tomtom so the satnav isnt a prob, hope this phone doesnt start showing the probs you guys are having, a guy I work with also had a Vodafone one but he is on his second handset which he says is like a ferrari compared to the first one he recieved.
November 22nd, 2009 at 10:27 pm
I’m on my second Satio in 10 days, my third arriving tomorrow. Same probs with both – it freezes, the screen scrambles, it keeps randomly displaying a photo, even in the middle of a video. I can only see numbers rather than contact names when I make a call. The thing is so slow that I usually miss whatever I’m trying to take a photo/video of. I hope I never have to make an emergency call because sometimes it takes over a minute for the phone to wake up and respond and make a call. My battery doesn’t even last 24 hrs if I’ve been using (or trying to use) the features on the phone a lot. I have to switch off and remove the batteries twice a day because it hangs. I’d like to cancel my contract but I think I’m now stuck with my 2 year Vodaphone contract. Not happy.
November 24th, 2009 at 5:55 pm
I got mine from Carphone Warehouse on the first day it was released, its unbranded and I’ve had a few (maybe 10 in all) lock ups over the past 5 weeks but noticed it seems to be when I tap it a lot, while flicking the lock switch, like it can’t handle too many input interrupts. I admit I didn’t expect perfection on a first release product, and what little goes wrong for me is kinda acceptable. If I’d had some of the issues above i’d have been annoyed. A couple of things to note is that I decided to clear out my contacts, so send them via bluetooth from old handset – a bit time consuming but it seems stable, perhaps the glitches are to do with the contacts and errors in inconsistent formats? I love it, though will be updating when the new firmware is released and hope that cures the occasional lock up.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
I am so gutted, but like so many here, I have the same freezing problems and sick of having to take the battery out to re-boot it. When it works it is a fantastic phone with great features. But until the reliability improves then Sony’s reputation can only be damaged. I upgraded via T-Mobile and they now advise me to hold on to it until Dec 10 for a exchange. I only got it on friday, 4 days ago, I should have gone for the Blackberry Curve 8520.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Had Satio for a week, lovely phone, crashes and freezes continually. Remove battery 4 or more times a day. This is my 4th SE phone and I was hoping for a more stable system. At least the battery is easy to remove, LOL.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
I’ve read every single post here and I’m glad that my phone is OK, no crashes, no freezing, everything works perfectly, one drawback in my opinion is the battery which is poor, only 2 days MAX on average use without wi-fi at all.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:58 am
I had exactly the same problems with the G900 which also runs Symbian software, I contacted Sony 8 months ago about this and was ignored, if only they could hear how loud I’m laughing now.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:14 am
I’m having exactly the same problem as everyone else, it crashes on the simplest of tasks, the apps that come with mine (Orange network) are demos and doesnt have a Youtube app or Twitter like adverts state (false advertising). I can only access them via Orange World or the browser. I am going back to P4U tomorrow, does anyone know what other model phones you can exchange it for? I want an iPhone as that was my first choice anyways, grrrr, someone said 10 handsets which ones are they?
November 25th, 2009 at 8:03 am
Why don’t you guys listen to me? you don’t have to take the battery out, just hold the power button for 20 seconds, it’ll power off that way.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:06 am
Hi all, as the first mobile phone comparison site to highlight these problems effecting Satio consumers we would like to thank you all for your feedback, reports and reviews.
We hope we have given a platform for consumers to voice their dismay and opinions and feel we have all made a difference with the recent withdrawal of this product until the issues are addressed.
The story has now made the headlines, the Daily Mirror’s article is pretty informative for everyone.

I’m on my second Satio (on Vodafone), and although my first one went back after 2 days, this one has been going strong for 2 weeks now. I like the handset, but having not used Symbian before I’m disappointed at the slow speed of it.
The 2 minor issues I have had are no name is displayed from callers which have a +44 prefix, (opposite to other people’s issue) and once I had to restart it before it would start charging itself when plugged in.
November 25th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
Mine has a couple of glitches but overall hasn’t been too bad, I ‘ve had no problem with my music, camera, screen or phone calls but my ringtone has changed itself back to default once. It has turned itself off randomly 4 times (3 of which in one day) and it freezes from time to time, but generally only if I give it to many instructions to do at the same time (e.g. if i try to hang up a call but accidently press hold, then un-hold it, then end call)
For those of you having problems with accessing Hotmail and the like, download Opera Mini and use this instead. All of these websites work and in a more visible, accessable version for touch screens as well.
Those of you seeing photos randomly appearing in the screen, you may accidently be pressing the button on the side of the phone with the play button on it, this is what you press to quickly view photos but I never realised I was doing it until a couple of days ago.
Those of you not seeing people’s names when receiving calls or texts, for now all you can do is change the numbers to +44 instead of 0, luckily I have not had this problem yet either. Looks like I’ve had the best of a bad bunch! Will still be trying to get the software update though as the phone is not cheap (nor is the insurance!!)
Overall I’m happy – the plus sides of this phone completely out weight the minor glitches, and to be honest it’s to be expected. I struggle to think of a single phone that has not had minor issues when first released – The phones are tested before they go out, but Sony Ericsson can obviously not test every single model or the hundreds of thousands of people that will be buying it – if they did that people would moan about how long it’s taking to be released for purchase.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:25 am
Just to add they are not all bad, I’ve had mine a month now, from CPW so unbranded, I have installed 100’s of apps mainly designed for the Nokia N97. Mine has never crashed, never locked up. I have had no problems so far other than the battery, I use it a lot and the battery is usually flat before the end of the day. If I use it continuously it lasts about 4-5 hours. I now have a spare battery and plug the phone in to charge whenever possible throughout the day.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
I haven’t had any problems with mine (on Vodafone) until tonight when I tried to connect it to my laptop. The phone opens the ‘how would you like to connect the device’ menu as normal, it starts charging, I click ‘PC Suite mode’ and then the computer says a USB device has malfunctioned, it begins to download the drivers from the phone, then it says download is complete, but the computer still will not recognise the phone as being connected, in any capacity. I wondered if it was my computer or my phone, but judging by this I guess it’s the phone. Anyone got any ideas? There’s not much point having an amazing camera if you can’t access any of your pictures via the computer.
November 28th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
Awesome phone, but hell. It wont turn on, have to remove the battery many times, it freezes, it pixelates, it wont let me get on the net. Having a nightmare with Carphone Warehouse who one minute state they will repair it, then they wont, then they will replace it, then they wont. Spent more time in their shop this week than at work and I’m still in possession of a knackered phone, how very disappointing.
November 29th, 2009 at 4:54 am
Any updates yet for the Satio?
November 29th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Alright, have had the freezing problems even when I tried to switch it off, it just froze there. Anyhow when I tried to pull out the battery I felt the temperature is kind of above what it should be, I dont know if anyone agree with me? Also guys dont forget the mobile is based on S60 5th edition software platform which is developed by Nokia,
shocking but true, check it out in the setting somewhere in the phone management, Cheers.

I received my phone yesterday. I am paying well over £40 a month for this bloody contract. The moment I got the phone, the handset froze. There are various glitches throughout the phone. I have discovered about 15 in the space of about an hours use. After which, I decided I would google the problem, and it turns out a surprisingly large number of people have had problems with this phone.
I now realise, why the ”advisor” on the end of the Three mobile helpline was trying to push this phone on me ”claiming that is the latest phone, and perfect in every way!”. I did not think much of it at the time but at the end of the call I was quickly told ” You have taken out insurance on this phone. This covers you for damage to the phone. You are not able to change your phone, until the date of completion of your contract. You have 14 days from the date of dispatch to contact us if you would like to send the phone back and exchange it from another – however, the item must NOT be used. If the item has been used – we are unable to accept it back, and you will have to complete your contract.”
I thought this was suspicious at the time, however, I did not really think about it until after I had experienced problems with the phone.
There are some points I would like to highlight here:
1) Surely Sony Ericsson should not release a phone, when there are problems/bugs everywhere throughout it.
2) If problems with a handset do arise after launch. Surely, ALL NETWORK PROVIDERS should at least suspend sale of the phone, until the problems have been resolved. NOT CARRY ON SELLING THEM, AND DEFFINATELY NOT TRYING TO GET RID OF THEM BY PUSHING THEM ON CUSTOMERS!!!!
I will be contacting Three mobile tomorrow to discuss the problems I am having. I will be expecting them to change the handset, and let me choose a different/more reliable model, as they sold an item to me which can not be used for the purpose of which it has been advertised, and sold.
I would just like to mention: Another problem I have found is that it will let me connect to Wi-Fi, but will not let me browse the internet. This was one of the main features I bought the phone for, aside from its camera obviously. Which I must admit is the only thing I am impressed with on this phone.
I would also like to add in response to Sianne’s post, that I have had exactly the same problem. I connect it to the computer. My computer acknowledges that it is connected, and I can access the folders in the device by going to my computer. However, as soon as I try to use the ”pc suite” software that I downloaded from the Sony Ericsson website, I get a message telling me that it was un-able to find the device. I have followed the troubleshooting guide to the letter, with no evale.
I have also tried downloading the Sony Ericsson updater. This allowed me to completely un-install all the software on the phone, and replace it with an up to date one. This still did not fix any of the problems I am having. I can only assume that this is not a software fault, but it is a hardware fault. I also only hope that all the other complaints that people have made about this phone, dont all have hardware faults.
I urge people – If you have recently purchased this phone, and are having problems with it – DONT WAIT, IN THE HOPE AN UPDATE WILL BE RELEASED BY SONY ERICSSON TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS! Contact your mobile network provider, and DEMAND they either sort this out, or lose your custom. If everybody does this, then hopefully the Satio will be pulled off the shelves. Dont sit there and do nothing. Make it known. SATIO’S WERE RELEASED FAR BEFORE THEY WERE READY.
My overall concensus of this phone is that it is un-reliable, tacky, and all together useless. Sony Ericsson seem to have over advertised this phone, trying to draw customers in by its VERY EXCITING 12.1 Mega pixel camera, and sleek and attractive design, when the hardware inside is not anywhere near up to scratch.

As of today, SE appear to have released a software/firmware update for the SATIO. The SE Update service is offering to update the SATIO with the new software… Anyone tried it yet?
December 1st, 2009 at 1:11 pm
Hi Guys,
I’ve had loads of Sony Ericsson’s in the past no issues, got my Satio end of October, what a nightmare im on my second handset, the first handset had issues when making calls people kept hearing their own voices, phoned orange who told me to change different network mode from dual to UMTS GSM etc, problem still the same so problem after problem rest of the phone has been brilliant.
Second handset problem solved, working well, had it for a week now brand new han set, charged the battery up in the morning at 10:00 by midnight battery completely finished dead what a joke.
I agree with alot of people here, done my research and need to get rid of my phone, agree with alot of you guys too many issues, the phone has come out too early with too many issue’s that need a fix before releasing such a phone like the Satio.
Any solution’s much appreciated, the firmware updates are not going to do much, how many updates can Sony keep doing to the software?
December 1st, 2009 at 4:32 pm
Well blessing in disguise, took my 3rd Satio back, offered N97 mini, W995, LG etc through CPW, took it to high complaints, sorry sir, nothing we can do. (I’m stupid, I usually research a gadget, wait for reviews then buy, not this time ) Poor girl at CPW shop was superb, offered me the last ‘HTC Hero’ in the shop after I went through every other phone they had and WOW!
This blows the Satio and its ancient Symbian operating system away. It uses Googles ‘Android’ software. NO freezing, fast use, great interface, hundreds of free apps via the ‘market’ icon pre installed. Groovy weather updates, the list goes on. I now know why T3 and Stuff magazine gave it an award. T3 gave it ‘wildcard gadget of the year’
No lie I LOVE THIS PHONE. Thanks Sony for making one of the worst phones out there, me and HTC would never have met otherwise!
iPhone? pah.

Hi there
I had a Satio on Orange for three weeks and started having problems with it freezing and switching off. The contract was Orange, who stated that they had had no problems with their Satio’s and offered me a replacement, which I declined. Orange would not exchange it for an iPhone, so after some whining and harrassment on my part I cancelled the contract. What worked was getting through to Orange technical support and having them remotely test the phone. They diagnosed a fault (code 153) and marked this up on the account.
Funnily enough when I returned the phone instore the store manager said that more Satio’s had been coming back and they expected more returns all with the same complaints of freezing and switching off.
My advice would be to seek a return as soon as yours plays up. Its a really shame as I thought that the Satio was a real smartphone heavy weight!

Well, at least you guys purchased through contract, I paid full price for this junk, $1,069 U.S.Dollars, I feel like I’ve made the worst decision in my life.
December 3rd, 2009 at 8:47 am
I am going to try the update now, however I have done a full backup but for the last ten days I have taken it off umts to gsm only and this has been (touch wood) fine with no crashes. Obviously this is unsatisfactory as it is the whole basis for 3G! I will see what happens as Carphone Warehouse wanted £200 to change to a HTC touch Diamond even though they are both the same price handset only!!! goes where the sun don’t shine etc.
December 3rd, 2009 at 8:59 am
Oh well – it was worth a try, same software revision as was already on the phone and has been on it since Nov, in early release period, patience is a virtue I guess.
December 3rd, 2009 at 3:33 pm
Ok, read through this and have pretty much the same problems as everyone else. These include, phone randomly freezing, especially when ending a call or trying to wake from standby, only way to get it back is to pull the battery, although will try the 20 seconds power button method when it inevitably crashes again.
Ringtone switching off at random, phone will ring and I answer call but they can’t hear me / I can’t hear them (doesn’t happen often). Alarm at first would switch phone on to sound, now if phone isn’t on, alarm will not sound, have had to resort to my K850i as an alarm clock.
Really poor battery life, WLAN and bluetooth turned off, phone used mainly for texting and audio playback when in the car, lasts about a day max, other annoyances are if you add a word to the dictionary, there is no way to remove it. Stupid problems with the predictive t9, eg bringing up hp before is, and abs before car, I mean wtf? another thing is if you add punctuation to a word that wasn’t the first one the t9 chose, then it defaults back to that first word, very annoying.
Screen rotate is too sensitive, and takes too long to do it, wish they’d not took the smart search (the feature where you could use the keypad to put the first few letters of a contact name in and it would bring anything matching from the phonebook up onscreen) out, I used that feature all the time with my past SE phones, no timer or torch features.
Overall I like the phone alot, but the freezing problems need sorting asap.

Hi everyone, Sony Ericsson have released an update, advice being reported is as follows:-
“Satio users should visit their Sony Ericsson download site and install the firmware update labelled version R1CA037.”
It has been rumoured this will only apply to “non-branded” Satio handsets. There hasnt been any official word from Sony or from Satio users if this fixes some or all of the problems, but it may be worth a try if you are still experiencing trouble.
We would really appreciate it if you could post back your experiences after the update has been installed.
December 3rd, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Patrick, I am hugely disappointed to read your post. I took my Satio back to the CPW and asked about exchanging it. They would only offer the N97 Mini, LG Chocolate and SE W995. I asked about the HTC Hero and was told no that wasn’t offered. I pushed and pushed and the sales person stood firm. With hindsight I wish I had gone for that in the first place.
December 3rd, 2009 at 8:32 pm
I have had a Satio since 2 hours, I had to restart it 4 times, still it’s impossible to use it, it gets blocked every time I open the camera. It’s unpossible to open the menu, it doesen’t work, can’t click the icons, in this state it’s not possible to use the phone. It’s a branded so there is even no update to do.
I think better get an iPhone 3gs, it’s a lot more useful. When those from Sony Ericsson wake up and make a store for apps, phones that don’t have software problems and agree with Nokia, Samsung and HTC to do an universal charger. I will think about to buy a Sony Ericsson again, before that it’s not the case. I have 3 other Sony’s, with 50 of them I could not do what I do with my old iPhone 3G. I’m also disappointed about the camera, so many pixels and such small lens. It will never take good pictures where is there is shadow and light, await further news.
December 4th, 2009 at 12:20 am
I got the Satio as an upgrade from T-Mobile not long after it had come out. I have had a few Sony’s in the past and this one seemed like the daddy of them all. But this hasn’t been the case as I have had the problem with regards to incoming texts where the contact name won’t show. This is my 2nd Satio and both phones have had the same problem. I haven’t had any of the other faults that people are saying but at the moment the phone is sitting in it’s box and I’m using my old K850i as I use it for work so need to know who has sent me a text!
I called T-Mobile earlier tonight and they hadn’t had any info on the update from Sony yet so wishing that I had sent the 2nd one back and taken the chance of not getting the tariff I wanted, may still try and make a fuss if I get no joy from Sony but agree that Sony rushed this phone into the market way too soon…very poor from such a big and well known company
December 4th, 2009 at 3:02 am
Rachel, where did you get that firmware update? I’m in U.S.A, but everytime I download the update, its still showing the older version of it, please help, thankyou .
December 4th, 2009 at 9:01 am
That new update only applies to unbranded phones and the SE update service lists no new update for branded phones. There’s a video on youtube that shows the patch improvements and they are simply to performance, not fixing the major faults. Go to esato’s Satio forum to get the link.
This has got to be the worst phone that I ever had, the previous worst being the SE K770i which was still more reliable than this. I am utterly disappointed as I took out a contract specifically for this phone and it has totally failed as a phone. I’m so annoyed that I’m seriously considering cancelling the contract and going back to my £20 a month simplicity plan.
It frequently fails to ring for calls. I mysteriously get voicemails even though the phone is indicating that I have reception. It freezes and needs to be restarted or have the battery removed. Doesn’t show the correct battery level. The battery lasts around 4 hours if I listen to 30 minutes of music and have roadsync on (which I need), and that’s without making calls! It goes into a spaz frequently and needs to be switched off and switched on. It forgets it’s profile settings. The list goes on.
Dial-a-Phone (Phones 4 U) are sending me a replacement and if that is as faulty then it’s going back and I’m calling off the contract even if I have to go through the courts to do so.
December 4th, 2009 at 10:25 am
I installed the R1CA037 last night. It has improved the touchscheen sensitivity somewhat and the Walkman seems to have stopped going silent. Camera still has an over 1 second lag (some people can draw faster). Phone book still gives a dodgy message when you go into it and phone numbers only come up when I receive calls and texts.
Mine is an unbranded one from CPW and hasn’t crashed a lot, but just does work, so looks like this was not a full update to address all the problems.
December 4th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Hi everyone, we have voiced your concerns to Sony Ericsson as well as our view about the whole situation and what can be done to avoid releases like this is the future, link below for details.

December 5th, 2009 at 4:17 am
Thanks Nick, but I couldn’t find help there for the update. Hey Ken, my phone is also an unbranded one, but I’d tried the update site on U.S. and Hong kong and even U.K. site without sucess, they all seem to have the same old version of the update, could you tell me where did you get your update from please? thanks.
December 5th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
Hi, I got my Satio from Singapore. This has the same problem of no ringtone on all and when call is received there is no sound from and to the caller. Seems like a software glitch, this is disappointing for a high end and extremely expensive phone. I demand action from Sony Ericsson immediately.
December 5th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
The update was not available on the Australian site either. I must say that I am not having anywhere like the issues that some of you are having. I have an unbranded phone sold in Aust, shipped from HK. I have tried to be a little ’slower’ in using it which has made an enormous difference. Now I have days without reboots (no need to do a battery pull – see previous messages). Expectations are very high with this phone. All in all I love the phone and most of the issues are not uncommon to any device. How often does my desktop PC grind to a halt? But like all of you I would like a product to go to market with less problems. I still think it is the neatest phone around. Dont let us down SE.
December 6th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
Had my phone two weeks with no problems, bought a hard case for it and protective screen, it went dead on me twice then put then the third time turned it on and found I had a cracked touch screen and nothing works. There is not a scratch on this phone and its never been dropped but got told by T-mobile if they think its my fault I will have to pay for a new screen. Have been a customer of theirs since they started. This stinks I have a 18 month contract with a crap phone they should never have sold.
December 7th, 2009 at 11:33 am
Hi Galaxy, I used the Sony Ericsson Upate Service, you can download this from thier site, try downloading the UK version it might have a different version number, apparently the update is being rolled out by area/region.
December 8th, 2009 at 4:39 am
Thanks Ken, I’ll give it a try again, it didn’t work the first time , but I’ll go for it once more.
December 9th, 2009 at 5:59 am
Yes, I finally got my update installed today, maybe is just me, the reaction of the phone seems slower, I can’t say anything about the freeze issue, as I just installed it, but I will update this issue to you guys and gals. By the way, for those of you who still can’t find the site to update this firmware, you can find it on Hong Kong’s website as well as Japan’s website. Today I downloaded from the Hong Kong website, if there’s a problem, I’ll try the Japan website too.
December 9th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
My 2nd day with my Satio, I’ve had no probs whatsoever with the camera or any other part of the phone, the only glitch I’ve come accross is when I receive a text msg, the name of the sender does not display only the number does and its quite annoying. I was wondering if there is any software update or anything that can correct this.
December 10th, 2009 at 5:08 am
Well, it’s working fine for me after I updated the new firmware, I downloaded from the HongKong website, give it a try
December 10th, 2009 at 10:18 am
if only the number is displaying in text message then you need to change all your contacts to +44********** i know this is impractical but if you connect your phone via USB to your pc/laptop in USB Storage Mode or Mass Storage you go to “MY COMPUTER” > U1 or whatever it is showing as >pccompanion >startme. This will install the drivers for the phone and then it will install Media Go, PC Companion and eventually the SE PC Suite. It took me a couple hours but was worth it, I changed all my numbers backed everything up did the software update and all is well. Got my phone 1st week of December and only problem I have is the themes do not work apart from the Sony Ericsson one. I can live with this as not that bothered to be honest but will be downloading a new one to see how I get on. Otherwise all the issues mentioned above I don’t have. Happy Little Me!!!
December 10th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
I’ve had my phone for a few weeks, the main problem I have is that when making calls receiving the sound is very tinny. Has anybody else got this problem? I also have missed calls, I receive a text saying I missed a call but the logs show no call. Apart from that I like the phone. Sony Ericsson (UK) told me that there will be a firmware update within two weeks and that there is no problems with the Satio.
December 11th, 2009 at 5:16 am
Everything’s ok after the update except the battery only lasted a day. Not to mention I don’t even use it much
December 11th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
Has anybody else got a tinny sound when making and receiving calls? Or is it my handset?
December 11th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
Hi, I have seen the Satio advertised since before launch and thought that it looked a really good phone. I’ve heard about all the issues about battery and ring tones and so on, but also that there is a firmware update that sorts that out. So is it still worth buying this phone, and if I buy it now (after 11th Dec, but before xmas) will it come with the update pre-installed?? thanks.
December 13th, 2009 at 4:27 am
I would love to return it, if I was still within the return policy date, and exchange me a Samsung Pixon 12, but that is just a dream now of course
December 14th, 2009 at 11:50 am
What the heck, I just bought my phone 2 weeks ago and after a week I’m having a standby theme settings problem, video sound quality is low and now I cant even access the media.
December 15th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
I’ve been wanting to buy this phone for ages now (pretty much just for the camera), but have been holding off because of its bad reputation. I was testing one in an O2 shop and whenever I slid open the slider the screen froze and pixelated. Also because if I were to buy it, it would be on pay as you go so I dont want to waste the money. Surely the latest updates must have sorted out these problems?
I’m really tempted to just buy this phone anyway and put on the updates and hope for the best. Can someone tell me if what I want to do is logical. I mean the majority of Satio phones must still work fine? I cant imagine them releasing a phone where nearly all of them have issues.
December 16th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
I’m commenting on the exchange of the Satio handset I had from the Carphone Warehouse in october. I was told by customer services at the CPW that I am entitled to an exchange because my Satio suffered from the symbian software bug. I called my local store and they said yes call in and we’ll exchange the Satio for you, no problem.
When I got there they proceeded with the exchange as promised. Whilst this was going on I got talking to the shop manager and he told me that Sony Ericsson were charging CPW £30.00 a pop for exchanging the handsets. Then the fun really started! I was refused an exchange because my contract was with Orange as the service provider. I told them that Orange are not responsible for the phone, only the contract. To cut a very long story short I was refused an exchange and Orange spoke to the manager of the CPW store and ordered him to exchange the phone. Oh no way! Any CPWH customers out there on Orange and have a faulty Satio beware! you wont get the exchange you were hoping for, all other customers not on Orange get in there before they blot you all out! I am now in proceedings with the office of fair trading.
December 18th, 2009 at 10:12 am
I’m still complaining about the battery, one day use only ? come on SE.
December 18th, 2009 at 12:09 pm
I’ve been told by T-Mobile this week that they are still selling the Satio, although they are making everyone aware of its problems, they ARE NOT doing any exchanges because the fault is in the software and that basically we’ve just got to wait for the update, so where the hell is it Sony Ericsson?
December 20th, 2009 at 11:13 am
I have had my Sony Ericsson Satio since october and yesterday I downloaded the SE software off the website and now when I try and turn my phone on, a red light comes on and the screen is white with ‘Sony Ericsson’ written on it. It then eventualy turns itself off! I don’t know what to do, can someone please help? Thanks (:
December 21st, 2009 at 2:09 pm
I got mine on 18th dec with tmobile as an upgrade for 18 mths. I dont use it too much for the apps but the one problem I have is getting it to recognise my sim contacts. They come up if I’m being called but when I go into phonebook it states “no contacts”?? I cant find how to send from sim to phone and no way do I want to re-write them all and I have the same text prob where I only get the number. My phone is a U1 whatever that means and I wasnt warned by tmobile that there has been so many problems. Does anyone also know what phones tmobile would exchange the Satio for?
December 21st, 2009 at 2:12 pm
Also has anybody else been successful in transferring contacts from sim to phone?
December 21st, 2009 at 7:23 pm
I have had my Satio for 2 months. Started off well, then little problems started, have updated twice, now the camera doesnt work, the flash continiously flashes, it takes no picture, then screen goes blank.
December 23rd, 2009 at 11:03 pm
Hey, I’ve had my Satio a while, and fair play it hasn’t crashed or freezed on me :S it’s working just fine, the only thing I don’t like about it is messages. I have loads of messages and I can’t delete them all at once, I have to delete them one by one, and I have so many it will take me ages :/ unless anybody knows how to delete all of them at once?
December 25th, 2009 at 11:46 am
I’ve had no problems with my Satio freezing or not hearing it, however it has stopped sending text messages, it will still allow me to send picture messages but postpones all texts and never sends them. I’ve sent it off to be fixed a few times and each time it returns it works fine for a few days and then the problem returns, anyone else had this problem?
December 26th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
I do have the same problem with my Satio since I bought it a month ago, I can’t understand why the phone is always going in vibrate mode while it is on normal mode, it vibrates when there is incoming calls but when I answer it I cannot hear on the other side. I remove the battery and turn it on again then the normal profile will work for a while. Is there any solution on this problem? Sony Ericsson should do something about this or else this will be the downfall of their top of the line handset.
December 30th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
WELL….
after finding that the new software release was available i tried last night…
1) update failed and left my phone completely useless, wouldnt even turn on.
2) tried phone repair, failed
3) tried phone repair, failed
4) tried phone repair, worked
5) tried update and didnt need to do it.. new software installed and (touch wood) has been absolutely fine since…
still not a good show though for my first (and last) Sony Ericsson phone.
December 30th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
it really needs to be sorted! my texts aren’t sending, my phone constantly freezes.. its ridiculous when you realise how much the contract costs you over 18 months.
December 31st, 2009 at 1:47 pm
it has been a long time since i posted the complaint .. after a week of trying different options.. i went on to download the software update..
Since then all the problems have been solved the phone is working fine.. This is my 4th consecutive purchase of a sony ericsson model and i am now satisfied with its performance…
The software glitches should be sorted out before the launch of such a high priced brand.. I chilling now and enjoying what SATIO has to offer…
December 31st, 2009 at 2:02 pm
Updated mine around a month ago, cured all the problems and the phone is awsome, we all slag SE off for releasing too early with bugs and maybe it did do more harm than good but they stepped up and released firmware that fixed all issues and quickly and now i have the best phone currently on the market. I-Phone killer definatly although they are different in their own ways

Voila, all gone.
BTW My Satio is working well. Sometimes I am over zealous and it gets ‘confused’, but I have had no ‘battery pulls’ or ‘resets’ for a month or so and I am enjoying it and I am a person with very high expectations.

my sony Ericsson satio will not turn on because first i turned off satio cause my battery was 20% dead then as i pressed the power button my phone didn’t turn on again and the screen is just black
January 5th, 2010 at 11:12 am
Fair play to SE, since updating my phone not a thing has gone wrong and I’m now more than happy with what I’ve got. (surely the phone should have been released like this though??)
January 5th, 2010 at 1:22 pm
Same old problems, phone freezes and gets confused so have to wait until Satio decides what its going to do, this can take a good few mins, if not same trick pull out battery start again. Will these problems be solved or should I throw the phone in the bin and suffer the cost of paying out for a non Sony handset.
January 8th, 2010 at 6:36 pm
you guys who have had a problem with satio make sure you update it, it is worth it, plus this is the best phone SE have come out with, I can play hd games on it, its awesome.
January 9th, 2010 at 7:13 pm
Hi, I am on my 2nd Satio on ‘3′ in as many months. The first would crash each time I zoomed in on Google Maps, returned to shop after 3 days and was replaced. This however, was after spending god knows how many hours on the phone to 1st and 2nd level tech support for help. 2nd handset has stopped retrieving emails, with an error code (-15). Several hours later on the suppport line to 2nd level tech support I was told to take the phone back to the shop for a sim test. Sim worked fine in another handset, so by logic, must be hardware problem.
While on the phone from the shop to tech support the shop assistant was to book the phone in for work which would take 5-15 days. Another assistant mentioned that it may be worth seeing if the phone had the correct and most recent software? Came in half hour ago, downloaded version 2.9.12.29 and everything works fine
Why o why did the helpdesk not mention this, very poor imo. Will write to 3 to see if they care and will report back. Good luck with updates.
January 9th, 2010 at 10:29 pm
I originally bought this phone on Orange the day it was released. Spent many hours with the first phone on the helpline until they finally diagnosed a problem with the phone (always connected via wifi, no option to select anything else, refused to connect to internet, make a phone call or send a text, plus the battery life lasted about 8 hours with EVERYTHING exited and turned off or down) so they sent the first replacement out.
I’ve had this phone about 2/3 months now and I recently got my hands on another Satio (the first I’ve seen for months other than my one (p.s I wonder why that is) and the other Satio was faster than mine at texting loading anything etc etc, but still this replacement has an absolutley terrible battery life.
So I phoned orange again and spent a while on the phone until I asked to talk to the manager who said the only offer I could have would be to have another phone ( is a third phone actually going to sort anything out? I really dont think it will considering the amount of complaints I’m hearing ) which was thoroughly disappointing on behalf of Orange!
I wish I waited for the iPhone, which I’ve had my hands on and I can honestly say it is the market leader for a reason.
To sum it up, this phone is not worth the hastle, the 12mp camera is ok but its the lense that does the job not the megapixels, its slow outdated, overrated, over hyped and just a terrible release shame on Sony Ericsson.
January 10th, 2010 at 2:37 pm
Hi can anyone advise me on consumer rights with these monthly contracts? I am on 02 and had the Satio for 2 months and I hate it. The battery lasts no more than 2 days and the internet is so slow its ridiculous, plus many apps like facebook wont even work. I have had it ‘repaired’ but it is no different!
As I am on a 24 month contract with 02, can I simply choose another handset or will I not be allowed to do this? I got the actual phone from phones4u. I’m really hoping that there is some law that says if the handset is terrible that the contract can be cancelled altogether but I realise this is very unlikely, so does anyone know if I will at least be able to change the handset? any help appreciated, thanks.
January 11th, 2010 at 11:15 am
Leanne… As far as I know, there isnt going to be anything that you can do with it as far as getting a new phone, and O2 wont do anything because you got it from Phones4u. Have you done the latest update? If you havent then do it straight away, it fixed every single problem that I had with mine (and I was at the point of smashing the thing up!)
If you have already got the lastest update then take it back in and insist that it is repaired or you are given a replacement. Its well worth sticking with it though because when it runs as it should have done in the first place its a cracking phone. Hope this helps
January 11th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
I’m so happy I waited, now I’m going to get an Xperia X10 I think.
January 11th, 2010 at 5:35 pm
Hello, I bought the Satio a month or so ago and all was fine, the occassional freezing though :/ which is annoying, but then the touchscreen stopped working completely! if I try and select one thing, it does something completely different!!, or even sometimes, doesnt even do anything!! can anybody tell me if this would this be solved by updating the software, or if you think it’s a bigger problem than that and I should return it to the shop? and also, where you download the software from? any advice would be great! thank you
January 13th, 2010 at 2:17 am
To Nick.
The problem with not receiving calls I suppose is because of an older sim card, which doesn’t work well on this new phone. The net thinks you are offline so the call doesn’t come to you. If you call operator, using an other phone, they will do a hlr reset, and should be able to check if the sim is too old.
About the Satio, I brought it back and got a Samsung Pixon 12, witch is smaller and working fine. Not one of them get a comparison with the iPhone, talking about speed writing sms, apps, maps and easy to use. The iPhone is just the best and far more advanced. But this time I wanted a camera phone and I got a good one.
If I think that I have to save manually hundred of words in the dictionary I get 2 grey hairs, why can’t we save them in a file? Don’t know about you, but I write in italian and sometime german. In italian there are lots of words missing, english is much easier.
About the camera of the Pixon I got ISO settings from 50 to iso 1600
) there are sooo many options. 7 different modes to set the light, like sand, fireworks, facing the light, portrait, panorama, night, text…. plus the “all automatic”, I can set the smile detection, the face detection, ever the open eyes detector (Korean are more crazy than japanese haha!), the skin imperfections correction…. 4 different vintage lens… can set the contrast, the brightness, can set the “automatic focus on a moving object”, the anti vibration set (yes you got that on Satio), I even can choose to not use the flash at all. Finally I wont have to blend my girlfrend taking a picture as it was usual with the SE C902.
…the setting to choose how to focus, yes already k550had that, but the setting with what set the light exposure, for example center, matrix (i can click on the side and it set the light with wat’s there), and the spot….
Then the night picture have the same quality as the day picture, in c902 there weren’t actually with the same megapixels. Check it by Satio if at maximum size you still have the same detail…, I wonder. Just took a panoramic picture with the lights of the night. verynice
I forgot the flash with reduction of red eyes
I’m finding other settings. The effects:blackandwithe, seppia(don’t know in english), the negative!!!!!!!!!!!! the antique, and the higher sharpness, the last: touch screen works also well, it always react
If you reply, write “to qiplayer” in the text so I can find you easyly.
Have a nice 2010
Sorry the battery least for 2 full days

I had a 2 year contract with Orange and I had the same problem, freezing, low battery and poor sound, but Orange told me that there is nothing wrong with my phone, I hate this now.

Hi, I received my Satio yesterday and dont find it too bad, getting to grips with it all. A few annoying things are
1) How do you exit applications please as I have about 8 running and the only way to end them is to turn off and start again
2) When I connect to wifi, it wont let me view pages, I am worried that this will go on my usage.
Comments would be greatly appreciated.

I have been using the Satio for 1 month, for the first time using it had many problems, such as the wallpaper would not change and when I flipped the screen it wouldnt turn back, but its ok now. BUT, I do have problem with the GPS system, it has expired, and if you want to use it, you have to extend and pay for it. It sucks you pay more for something should be included in it. Does anybody know which GPS application should be used and free?

Has anyone else had a problem with the alarm being set and not activating?! Luckily my back up alarm clock was set and managed to wake me up for work, very lucky! Also I keep setting the display option to be kept on for 60 secs but every now and again this reverts itself back to the default setting of 10 secs which becomes quite annoying.

Hello everyone, I have a third handset now and my problem persists.
If I connect my phone to the PC and try to do any operation which takes little bit longer or transfer larger amount of data the phone just disconnects itself from computer. Same situation if I’m trying to send text messages via PC Suite. If the text is longer than 1 page phone will not send it but will disconnect itself from PC again.
I’ve tried so many things already. From master reset to factory default settings through the update of firmware to exchange handsets but it’s still the same. I have also tried and tested it on other computers with the same result. I’m really lost now because this way I can’t use quite a lot of features which this phone offers, nor back up my data or restore.
Has anyone experienced this or similar problem and came to the satisfactory solution?
Thanks in advance for your replies and help.

I have had the silver Satio for just over a month and not had any problems yet, unlike the wife who has the black Satio and is getting the message no sim inserted quite often. She is on her 2nd battery which is no better than the first one, around 8 hrs with wifi and bluetooth turned off, both are unbranded ones from cpw on T-Mobile.

Hi all, I’ve read some of the above and I must say for someone who keeps dropping my Satio and dropping it in water and getting it wet, it’s still working, though saying that the only problem is when I try log into my hotmail account it just keeps coming up with ”do you want to continue?” does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Does anyone know how I can get a software update for the Satio using Mac? everywhere I’ve looked on the internet just says Windows compatible… soo annoying!

Really tense with my phone, but just got little relief when I saw everyone facing the same problems and it can be solved. Bit hard to use though, been using SE for 2 yrs, a complicated phone. Battery as usual problems, the rest I believe is fine. Can anyone guide me on how to email a pic from phone directly as I know this phone can. Thanks Vicky

I’m really disappointed with SE, the phone has great features but I can’t continue to use it with these problems :
1- the battery finished really fast
2- shuts down on its own even if the battery is full and I’m not using it!
3- can’t delete emails!
I updated it yesterday 9-FEB-2010 and still all the problems are not solved.

I’m now on my second Satio, most problems have been resolved. I’ve only got one little thing thats bugging me. The first one was a disaster. Froze from the moment I got it. Had to take the battery out on average 5 times a day to get it to work. I just love the camera so much, but the phone itself has been a real let down. Orange were amazing, rang up and organised another one to be delivered in exchange for my old one. Since receiving my new Satio, its never froze, not once. But the only problem is when I write long texts and click the “*” button for the symbols, it will just freeze. I can get back onto the menu, its just the actual text thats froze. This has only started to happen, otherwise, I love the phone. Just wish Sony would have taken their time with it!

02 and CPW have now stopped selling the Satio and have sent back their entire stocks to SE. The manager suggests the HTC HD2 is a much better phone

Hi, I had to get my Satio replaced after 2 days as it wasn’t charging.
The second 1 seems to be working great except:
I do not get any alerts upon receiving an sms. It doesn’t show up on my screen nor is there a beep. The only time I know when I’ve gotten an sms, is if I have to open up my inbox.
Checked the settings, but that seems fine. The phone’s 2 weeks old so still getting used to it
Any ideas on how I can sort this out…?

I have encountered a number of problems with my Sony Ericsson Satio, most of which are commented on above. However, my most recent one is predictive texting. Rather than defaulting to the word used most often and recently (such as “the”) it defaults to a word which I may have used once remotely in the past (like “vie”). Similarly with “do” and “em”. Hardly critical but most annoying.
Does anyone know a fix?
February 23rd, 2010 at 12:31 am
On my second satio, all going ok until I started downloading new software from Sony Ericsson, now phone is buggerd, got to be sent away to be fixed, phone company said the software is likely to be corrupting the phone, and stopping it from turning on! stay away from the software up date’s, feel like we are the guinie pigs!

Hi, has anyone had an issue with contact displaying different in a text message? Eg I have my dad saved in my contact list as “dad” but when he texts me, in my inbox it says “dad/1″ a few other contacts are like that too, it’s really bugging me. I’d appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hi, I bought my phone in December of an ebay member, I have had the same problems, I also bought my boyfriend a Nokia N97, apparently Nokia had something to do with making the Satio its exactly the same set up and exactly the same problems, its disgraceful, does anyone know if Sony is doing anything to fix these problems?
February 25th, 2010 at 11:31 am
Hey all, I seem to have a problem with the Satio connecting to the internet all on its own, I only ever realise when the battery is dead when I go to use it. Has anyone else experienced this problem? and if so, how did you fix it? Otherwise I am quite happy with it. Thats largely because constant internet connection is rendering the phone useless so I’m back to an old SE.
February 25th, 2010 at 2:56 pm
Sally, in response to your message, mine did that too but I think its because of the way you transfer numbers from previous sim card / phone. I couldnt find a quick fix, so I edited every single contact in my phone so it reads properly. Took me about 1 and half hours, but been worth it ever since to save on annoyance factor.

Damn phone is driving me nuts, the camera takes a pic fine then just freezes and starts flashing mad. I have to power it off then restart maybe 3 – 4 times and its so long winded
March 1st, 2010 at 7:55 pm

I have the same problem as Harry – my first phone delivered January (Vodafone) was replaced Feb due to a fault with the bluetooth – distorted through headset, but now am having problems turning the phone on, and also, obscurely, charge the phone all night only to find the battery is flat in the morning. I have always had Sony Ericsson phones – got this one because of the high quality camera but I am starting to wish I had gone for the iPhone. Anyone else with the same problem/s and any fixes they are aware of?

Got my Sony Ericsson Satio in Nov 2009, and its still sitting in the box, terrible touchscreen, probs accepting sim,(not recognising sim or info). T-Mobile didnt want anything to do with me after I had signed new contract and manager even told me to sell it on e-bay so I’ve went back to my trusty S.E.750i..def wouldnt reccommend this phone to anyone.
I wanted an iPhone in the first place but the staff said this was an iPhone killer, so much better, so I trusted them on their word and knowledge (funny how they cant demo the phones ) now I know why with all the problems people are having.

Hi there, I have troubles adding this blog page to my RSS reader. My browser is K-Melon, could that be causing the trouble?
