It seems that T-Mobile will be refreshing their tariff line-up in February, looking to offer consumers 'ultra flexibility' with 'great consumer offers', which all sounds great until you notice that one of these 'great consumer offers' is the removal of all 12 month contract options!

If the rumour is true, February will see the discontinuation of all Flext and Combi price plans, which will be replaced with a new range of pay monthly and SIM only deals. These tariffs will allow customers to choose from ‘flexible’ boosters of unlimited texts, landline calls, internet and roaming boosters, to build a price plan that offers more of what users need.

Given the speed with which mobile technology develops these days, the loss of a 12 month contract option is a real blow, but there may be a light shining in the gloom of 36 month contract deals, in the shape of new telecoms reforms agreed by the EU back in December. As well as bringing in 1 working day number porting, the telecoms reforms state that the maximum contract length should be 24 months and a 12 month option should also be available. These reforms are expected to be in place by June 2011. This policy is to be implemented by all 27 member EU states, so it would seem that the loss of 12 month contract deals will only be for a year.

We will bring full details of the new T-Mobile price plans when they are released.
