There was a lot of fuss recently when Vodafone sent out a software update to all owners of HTC Desire handsets on its network. Whilst most were hoping it would be the much anticipated Android 2.2 FroYo update, it turned out to be a minor firmware change, that added a few Vodafone icons to the main menu, that couldn't be moved or hidden, either.
After much fury was vented towards Vodafone through the network's forum, the network itself promised that the 2.2 update would be shortly available, and today is the day the rollout starts. And not only that, Vodafone have also suggested that the icons from the recent firmware tweak will now be able to be hidden.
Most Android handset menus are preset to allow the phone to poll the network servers on a regular basis (usually every two weeks) to check for software updates, but you can also check manually via the handset settings menu, and select 'Software Updates.' Remember though the firmware is being rolled out over the next few days to users in a controlled way to stop the network straining under the data demand, so if the update doesn't appear for you straight away, then keep checking.
