JailBreakMe

First up, whether jailbreaking your iPhone is legal or not is a debatable point. In essence, when you buy a mobile phone in the UK on contract, the phone belongs to you, straight away. Your contractual agreement with the network is for the supply of airtime, the phone is subsidised as an incentive to sign up. But what is not open to debate, jailbreaking your iPhone does void your warranty, and if your phone stops working, you are still liable for those monthly payments.

With that in mind, we've noticed today that there is a new service available to iPhone 4 users, which allows them to jailbreak their handset, and compared to previous methods, it seems rather simple, too. All you do is browse to JailBreakMe using the iPhone Safari browser, and activate the 'Slide to Jailbreak' switch. Follow the onscreen instructions, reboot your device, job done. It also appears that the early problem this service caused to the MMS and Facetime service has also been rectified, with some users now stating these options work fine after they have applied the jailbreak to their phone.

If you do decide to jailbreak your iPhone, you will be able to install some of the rather cool customisation apps that are available for the handset, but not approved by Apple, so unavailable through the normal channels. Some of the options include adding a whole new menu layout, themes, new icons, changing the font style, as well as a host of extra applications.

If you do decide to jailbreak your device, drop a comment in the combox and let us know how you get on. Just be aware, jailbreaking is done at your own risk, and if something goes wrong, getting the right support to rectify the problem isn't always straight forward.
